2008 Global Celebration of Rumi
Thanks to Coleman Barks, Andrew Harvey and other key translators, the poetry of Jelal-ud-Din Rumi continues to spiral through our global village igniting and opening the mystical heart of humanity. Hidden within this timeless transmission of poetry, which flowed through him spontaneously, is a very precise spiritual teaching addressing every aspect of humanity's current awakening.
December 17th is the anniversary of Rumi's transition from the earth- what he called his 'Wedding Day' with eternity. People from all traditions came to his wedding, recognizing in him the embodied Presence of universal love.
Evening includes a performance of ecstatic poetry (Rumi, Hafiz and other spiritual masters) and music followed by four rounds of Sufi Whirling Prayer ceremony. Those who attend are encouraged to participate in the whirling. Performance artists for this special evening includeGabrielle Young (ecstatic poetry) with the musicians of Sagrado: Eric Zang (ney, oud, tar, vocals),John Dumas (world flutes, didges, guitar), Porangui (percussive, song) and Three Trees (percussive, saz).
"Gabrielle Young has honed her being and her art. She is not merely a marvelous interpreter of Rumi's poetry, but a transmitter of their sacred fire". - Andrew Harvey

Gabrielle Young's rendering of the poetry of Jelaluddin Rumi elegantly
evokes the magical passion for the Divine of the great Sufi Spiritual
master. Her performance has so perfectly internalized the deep spiritual
Messages that one feels the presence of a powerful transmission taking
place. Her elegant use of word and gesture makes for a mesmerizing experience.
Terry Riley, composer
When
I first heard Rumi, I felt Being move inside...
Gayle Roberts, massage therapist
The poetry was words I had heard before, a flowing, a glowing, something
so intricate yet simple, a natural instinct, balance. I could feel this
very high energy, like a chemical, in my heart. I felt I was skydiving
through myself. This "falling" was a good feeling and filled
me with energy for days afterwards. That energy, that gift, is more
powerful than any army. I have always known; I have just never known
where, inside, to look. Natalia
